AUSTIN PEAY LEGEND DAVE LOOS NAMED KATS KAPTAIN FOR SATURDAY’S HOME GAME
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Austin Peay State University legend Dave Loos has been named the Kats Kaptain of the Game for Saturday’s home game at F&M Bank Arena.
In pregame festivities at midfield before the Kats kick off their third home game of the season versus the Minnesota Monsters at 4 p.m., Loos will do the ceremonial coin toss with the game referee.
Loos and Kats President and Partner Jeff Fisher will greet Kats fans when gates open at the arena at 3 p.m. Both Loos and Fisher have been enshrined in the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame.
Loos was the most successful head coach in both Austin Peay and Ohio Valley Conference history. He won 502 games in his career and became Austin Peay's all-time winningest coach with 420 victories. He led the Governors to the NCAA Tournament four times and the National Invitation Tournament twice and was named OVC Coach of the Year four times.
Loos also served 17 years as Austin Peay’s athletics director from 1997- 2013.
“Coach Loos is certainly a legend in our state for what he did coaching and administratively as athletics director at Austin Peay for all those years,” Fisher said. “Everything he did was done with class. He is such a gentleman and so revered throughout the community. We are honored to have Coach Loos be the Kats Kaptain for Saturday’s game and pay tribute to his amazing career.”
Loos retired from coaching in 2017. A native of St. Louis, Loos is also a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
“I am honored to be asked to be the Kats Kaptain for Saturday’s game,” Loos said. “There are a lot of people in Clarksville and Montgomery County who are really excited about the Kats being here. And Coach Fisher is such a fixture in or community.”
The Kats are off to a 2-1 start this season and have consecutive home games at F&M Bank Arena in downtown Clarksville the next two Saturdays – May 9 versus the Oregon Lightning and May 16 versus the Oceanside Bombers. Both games kick off at 4 p.m. CDT.
The May 16 Kats-Bombers game is the VICE TV AF1 Game of the Week. All Arena Football One (AF1) games this season can be watched at TheAF1.com – the league’s official website.
