FORMER TENNESSEE TITANS RECEIVERS DERRICK MASON & KEVIN DYSON NAMED KATS KAPTAINS

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – The Nashville Kats have named former TennesseeTitans wide receiver legends Derrick Mason and Kevin Dyson as Kats Kaptains for Saturday’s home game at F&M Bank Arena.

In pregame festivities at midfield before the Kats kick off their fourth home game of the season versus the Oceanside Bombers at 4 p.m., Mason and Dyson will do the ceremonial coin toss along with Arena Football One (AF1) referee Tom Ritter.

Mason and Dyson will greet fans when the arena gates open at 3 p.m. along with their former Titans coach Jeff Fisher, Kats President and Partner and Commissioner of AF1.

“Having Derrick and Kevin come be honored at the Kats game is special for me and so many Titans fans,” Fisher said. “They are such iconic players in the history of the Titans’ franchise and, best of all, they were great leaders and great teammates. They played huge roles on and off the field in establishing the foundation of the franchise in Nashville and middle Tennessee.”

Like Fisher a member of the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame, Mason played eight seasons in Tennessee, earning Pro Bowl honors and helping the Titans reach Super Bowl XXXIV. He remains the franchise’s all-time leader in receiving yards and receptions and finished his NFL career with more than 12,000 receiving yards, playing for the Ravens and Jets as well.

“This is a great opportunity to show our support for the Kats,” said Mason, who currently hosts a daily sports talk show on 102.5 The Game with the television voice of the Nashville Predators Willy Daunic and Adam Vingan. “Obviously, I’m doing this for a former coach in coach Fisher with a former teammate in Kevin Dyson. We had some great times together.”

Dyson was part of the one of the most famous plays in NFL history – the Music City Miracle – in which he scored the game-winning touchdown against the Buffalo Bills in the 1999 season playoffs. He played for the Titans from 1998-2002 as well with the Panthers, Charger and Redskins.

An educational administrator who earned his doctorate, Dr. Kevin Dyson was most recently the principal at Centennial High School in Franklin.

“Derrick was such a great teammate and we all know what coach Fisher did with the Titans and the move here from Houston,” Dyson said. “We made a lot of history together with a great group of teammates. That was a special time.”

Following last Saturday’s 64-21 win over the Oregon Lightning, the Kats are off to a 3-1 start. Saturday’s game versus the Bombers is the VICE TV AF1 Game of the Week featuring the broadcast team of legendary announcer Eli Gold and Alabama football legend Bobby Humphrey.
