KATS DB ALEXANDER REPEATS AS AF1 DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – Nashville Kats defensive back Omari Alexander has been named the Arena Football One (AF1) Defensive Player of the Week for a second straight week.

The award for the Western Kentucky product follows the Week 13 showdown Saturday between the Nashville Kats and host Albany Firebirds in a battle for the No. 1 overall seed in the AF1 playoffs.

Alexander had eight tackles and one interception in the 57-54 win that netted a bye into the semifinal round of the playoffs. He is tied for second in the league with seven interceptions on the season.

The Kats will host a semifinal game on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. at F&M Bank Arena against an opponent still to be determined. That winner advances to the Arena Crown championship game on Aug. 8.

For Week 12, Alexander was also named AF1 Defensive Player of the Week after his four interceptions helped the Kats win 68-30 win at the Washington Wolfpack.

On Monday, Kats quarterback Tyler Kulka was named AF1 Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the honor with his brother, Albany quarterback Joshua Kulka. It was the third time this season Tyler Kulka has one or shared the award this season, having shared it earlier with his brother for Week 2.

The Nashville Kats closed the regular season by winning nine games in row and swept the season series versus the Firebirds. The Kats finished 11-1 to sit atop the league standings, while the Firebirds were 9-3 in second place and secured the No. 2 playoffs seed.

The AF1 playoffs begin July 25-26 with the No. 3 seed versus the No. 6 seed, while the No 4 seed will take on the No. 5 seed. Heading into the final week of the season, those slots are currently held by the No. 3 Minnesota Monsters (7-3), No. 4 Kentucky Barrels (7-5), No. 5 Michigan Arsenal (5-6) and No. 6 Washington Wolfpack (5-7).

For the regular season, the Kats finished 7-0 at home during the regular season with wins April 14 versus the Michigan Arsenal (78-40), April 27 over the Washington Wolfpack (45-3), May 9 against the Oregon Lightning (64-21), May 16 versus the Oceanside Bombers (63-49), June 13 versus the Minnesota Monsters (48-32), June 20 against the Albany Firebirds (78-69) and June 27 versus the Beaumont Renegades (72-20).
