KULKA BROTHERS – TYLER & JOSHUA -- NAMED AF1 CO-OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF WEEK FOR 2ND TIME

CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. – For the second time this season, the Kulka brothers – Tyler and Joshua -- have been named Arena Football One (AF1) Co-Offensive Players of the Week.

The award for the quarterbacks follows the Week 13 showdown Saturday between the Nashville Kats and host Albany Firebirds in a battle for the No. 1 overall seed in the AF1 playoffs.

Tyler Kulka led the Kats to a 57-54 win that netted a bye into the semifinal round of the playoffs. The Kats will host that game on Sunday, Aug. 2 at 3 p.m. at F&M Bank Arena against an opponent still to be determined.

The Kats’ Kulka completed 22 of 32 passes for 232 yards with six touchdowns and one interception. The Firebirds’ Kulka connected on 18 of 41 passes for 311 yards and also with six TD passes and one pick.

The Kulka brothers previously shared the AF1 Co-Offensive Players of the Week honors for Week 2.

Tyler Kulka, a Lawrence Tech product, leads the league in three categories -- total passing yards (2,835), touchdown passes (56) and total offensive yards (2,817), while second in two categories -- passing yards per game (236.3) and offensive yards per game (287.7).

The Nashville Kats closed the regular season by winning nine games in row and swept the season series versus the Firebirds. The Kats finished 11-1 to sit atop the league standings, while the Firebirds were 9-3 in second place and secured the No. 2 playoffs seed.

The AF1 playoffs begin July 25-26 with the No. 3 seed versus the No. 6 seed, while the No 4 seed will take on the No. 5 seed. Heading into the final week of the season, those slots are currently held by the No. 3 Minnesota Monsters (7-3), No. 4 Kentucky Barrels (7-5), No. 5 Michigan Arsenal (5-6) and No. 6 Washington Wolfpack (5-7).

For the regular season, the Kats finished 7-0 at home during the regular season with wins April 14 versus the Michigan Arsenal (78-40), April 27 over the Washington Wolfpack (45-3), May 9 against the Oregon Lightning (64-21), May 16 versus the Oceanside Bombers (63-49), June 13 versus the Minnesota Monsters (48-32), June 20 against the Albany Firebirds (78-69) and June 27 versus the Beaumont Renegades (72-20).
